Cleaning of a ballast installation of the unit. Ballast water reservoirs and filling system became contaminated with heavy fuel as a result of a failure.
The inside of the reservoirs were cleaned both hydro-dynamically and chemically, while the entire installation underwent a thorough chemical cleaning.
After completion of the works and special laboratory testing, the unit was re-accredited and could resume using its entire ballast water installation.
According to the results, the water purity was below 2 ppm, while the standards allow for 15 ppm.
